Symtom

You cannot install the MaxBack VSS Writer on Windows Server 2008. 
The Installations fails with a message containing "core.cab has an invalid digital signature".

Solution

Windows Server 2008 requires a Windows Update to handle MSI packages with SHA256 signatures. 

Please install Windows Update KB2763674.

If the issue is not solved after installing the update apply all available windows updates from Windows Update.
